Marvel Superheroes: Battle Cat

I make no bones about it.  I’m a geek.  I have been playing role playing games since I was six years old.  It started around the dinner table with my entire family (after singing from the Glory & Praise songbook of course).

I happily continue to do so to this very day … though my wife believes it to be a poor use of time. And moronic, did I mention that?

I’ve been converting characters from the Masters of the Universe (MotU) over to Marvel as a hobby … and because there are other nerds that might find it useful.  Here is Battle Cat.

F: IN (40)
A: GD (10)
S: IN (40)
E: AM (50)
R: TY (6)
I: RM (30)
P: EX (20)

Health: 140
Karma: 56
Resources: GD (10)
Popularity: 20

BACKGROUND
Real Name: Cringer
Occupation: Pet Tiger / Steed
Identity: Secret
Place of Birth: Palace of Eternia
Known Relatives: None
Base of Operations: Castle Grayskull
Group Affiliations: Heroic Warriors

KNOWN POWERS:

Alter Ego: Battle Cat is the secret alter ego of the cowardly Cringer, the green tiger of Prince Adam.  When Adam changes into He-Man he also transforms his loyal pet in his fierce saber-toothed steed.  During the transformation, Battle Cat doubles in size.  Battle Cat is unable to transform without Prince Adam or He-Man and the Power Sword.

His abilities as Cringer are:

F: Pr 4
A: Ty 6
S: Ty 6
E: Gd 10
R: Ty 6
I: Gd 10
P: Ty 6
Health: 26 | Karma: 22
Resources: PR | Popularity: 1

Battle Armor: Battle Cat wears heavy barding plate when he transforms from Cringer.  The armor provides EX (20) protection against physical and energy attacks.  He-Man’s saddle is built into this armor.

Hyper-Running: Battle Cat can run at IN (40) land speed for extended periods of time even with a passenger in the saddle.

Hyper-Jumping: With his mighty legs, Battle Cat can make leaps of Unearthly (100) distance.
Natural Weaponry: With massive claws and teeth, Battle Cat’s natural weapons inflict IN (40) Edged damage.

Battle Roar: Battle Cat can unleash a terrifying roar once per battle that causes the target to flee in terror at RM (30) intensity against the target’s Psyche.  If the target fails, then the target flees in a direction of the target’s choice.  Use the target’s Psyche to against the Slam effect to determine the distance.  The target also loses their next action.  Beast Man receives a -2 CS to resist this power.

Resist Emotion Attacks: Battle Cat is extremely resistance to mind control, fear effects, or other types of domination with MN (75) intensity.  This power cancels out Beast Man’s animal control power.

Size: Due to Battle Cat’s large size, opponents receive a +1 CS to attack him.

Talents: Martial Arts B.  Depending on the iteration of Battle Cat and Cringer (1982 vs. 2002), this creature can speak in either form.  In the later edition, neither form can speak, but can understand others without problem.
Contacts: The Eternian Royal Family, Heroic Warriors, and the Sorceress.

HISTORY: Cringer’s origin differs based on the version of He-Man from the original Mini-Comics, the 1982 series, and the 2002 series.  The most widely accepted was that Prince Adam found Cringer as a kitten lost in the jungle after surviving the brutal attack of a Sabre-Cat.  He was adopted and essentially became apart of the Royal Court.

When He-Man first discovered his powers, the secret was kept from his longtime friend until his aided was needed in protecting innocents under attack by wild monsters.

The Sorceress foretold that Cringer would be a valuable companion to He-Man, but his transformation into Battle Cat was a surprise to both Cringer and He-Man.

NOTES: There are a couple of different origin stories and scope of powers for Battle Cat.  The alter ego of Cringer was first introduced in the Filmation cartoon, which is generally considered as close to canon as possible given the extent of the varying sources. As always, I do not own the copyright for this material, game system, or the artwork. This material is not for sale and is fan contribution.

Would you mind posting a primer on all these codes? I’m a -1 on speed, +4 on endurance, and a Level 4 bed wetter, but I don’t know what EX (20) or IN (40) is.

FASERIP is a breakdown of physical and mental abilities: Fighting, Agility, Strength, Endurance, Reason, Intuition, and Psyche.

Each is accorded a score of increasing power: Shift 0, Feeble, Poor, Typical, Good, Excellent, Remarkable, Incredible, Amazing, Monstrous, Unearthly, Shift X, Shift Y, Shift Z, Class 1000, Class 3000, Class 5000, and Beyond.

For example, the Hulk has a strength of Unearthly (100), which means he can lift 100 tons easily. Spiderman has an agility of Amazing (50). You sum up the four physical scores to arrive at Health and the three mental scores to arrive at starting Karma.

Powers have the same levels of abilities (Shift 0, etc) indicating their respective strengths. These all correlate to a power table that you roll % dice against to determine success, failure, etc.

    Does that help?

That helps. Do me! Do me!
