Lian represents the collective exasperation of the “tough” generation at the over-medicated, softy, whiny mewling of the anti-depressant generation. There’s a point when these people used to soldiering on in hail, sleet, and snow get annoyed with the melodrama of the current generation. Call it the Lian Line.

I can see the exchange now:

Chen (thinking to himself as Lian approaches, hand extended): “Finally! After five hours, SOMEONE is willing to reach out to me! I’m so alone and desperate, but this small act of kindness has given me perspective. I want LIIIIIIIIIIVE!”
